1 Entity-based pattern

The entity-based pattern is one of the simplest and most intuitive ways to model data provenance. It involves attaching provenance attributes to each data entity, such as the source, timestamp, author, or version. This pattern is easy to implement and query, but it can also lead to data duplication, inconsistency, and low expressiveness. For example, if the same data entity is derived from multiple sources, it may be difficult to represent the relationships and dependencies among them.

The entity based pattern is strong related with relational database because the relational database create tables that represent entities to connect between them by relation focus fields. With this idea, you can use normalized techniques to address points like duplication or dependencies ,and another capacities of data storage to implement it like nested fields like array or json to generate more efficient tables. In my opinion; you can create these tables: > Actors of the organization: member teams, clients, service, external providers, etc. > Teams in organization. > Type of activities in record: updating, inserting, moving, etc. > Metadata of records: table, data souce or time for example. Entity can be a object, concept or person.

2 Graph-based pattern

The graph-based pattern is a more flexible and powerful way to model data provenance. It involves representing data entities as nodes and provenance relationships as edges in a graph. This pattern can capture complex provenance scenarios, such as data lineage, causality, derivation, and annotation.
