Bi-directional RNNs and their variants are much better than the vanilla RNNs, especially in the context of storing information in the memory. Since it works on both forward and backward directions, the rate of important information being stored in any one of the directions is high.

Now here's something I'd like to add, by incorporating an encoder-decoder structure, Attention RNNs excel in processing information effectively: the encoder transforms input sequences into vector representations, while the decoder produces output sequences by dynamically attending to pertinent vectors in each time step. This tailored focus empowers Attention RNNs to mitigate information loss or distortion typical in traditional RNNs, particularly with lengthy sequences. Moreover, they exhibit versatility in accommodating variable-length inputs and outputs, culminating in the generation of coherent and natural results.
