I really believe identifying your transferable skills, and really leaning into those things that will come with you, no matter where you go or what you do is very important moving forward. I know that is a focus area of my own, as I look to make a career transition. Interestingly enough, I did a prompt in #Chatgpt a month back, I prompted it to be my career coach, with my current background, etc., and directed it towards career transition and the first thing that came up was identifying transferable skills. Things to consider: - What is their mission? - What are their short, medium and long term goals? - What have they achieved recently? - What’s happening at a macro and micro level that could spell opportunities or risks for the company? What might they or will they need to focus on take advantage of those opportunities or limit those risks? - What challenges have they faced or are they currently facing that they might need help with? - What are their pain points? When you have a complete understanding of this you can then highlight your achievements most valuable to their goals and challenges.

I whole heartedly agree that you need to highlight your transferable skills in both the resume and cover letter. There are effective ways to do this and trite overused techniques to avoid. DO: 1- Tell a story/ describe something you have done that demonstrates this transferable skill. 2- Use the key phrases and lingo of the job / industry you are applying to not the one you are leaving. 3- Be concise. 4- Tease your audience so that they say “Wow! I need to meet this person.” AVOID: 1- Using the phase “transferable skill” or “benefit” 2- Stating how ___ skill can “benefit” the employer 3- Using abbreviations and acronyms that are not defined. 4- Stating you are a perfect fit Allow your new boss to conclude your experience is relevant.
