What skills make you an innovative and creative HR professional?

The act of questioning encourages exploration of new possibilities and challenges existing assumptions, leading to growth and development. Furthermore, curiosity allows individuals to learn from others, benefiting from diverse perspectives and backgrounds. To foster curiosity, it is suggested to read extensively, seek feedback from various stakeholders, and experiment with new tools and approaches, ultimately enhancing one's coaching abilities.

Curiosity often comes not only from reading, questioning different stakeholders, and/or playing with various tools and methods, but rather from trying to see and act within your role from a different perspective than HR. Far too many HR professionals are literally HR professionals, which makes them limited and sometimes out of touch with the main business objective. In my experience, curiosity always comes with changing my mindset and approach as if I was responsible for, let's say, marketing, sales, or operation. How do these people think? What are their objectives? How can I embed it into my daily practice?

Some of the most interesting innovations in an industry or field come from borrowing and tailoring innovations in other industries or fields. A great example is Agile HR, which has been adapted from Agile development and project management methodologies in IT. Staying curious about what is happening elsewhere and how similar learnings can be applied within HR can really help you stay on the cutting edge of innovation.

In my opinion , you have to be open to new learning experiences . A diverse skillset is crucial. These skills enable you to adapt to dynamic workplace environments, foster employee growth and development, and implement innovative HR strategies. These skills sets include : critical thinking , EQ, Adaptability, Tech saviness, design thinking , change managment to name a few

A growth mindset is essential to any profession if you have the ambition to leverage your work and your team. It goes hand in hand with the idea that no matter what you do or encounter in life, you are the one responsible for it. We cannot genuinely learn a growth mindset if we fall into the "victim" mentality. It's the circle of influence vs the circle of concern debate, that we need to foster on a daily basis and remind ourselves what we can influence and where our focus should aim.

With innovation comes risk - trying something new and pushing the boundaries will not work perfectly each time. A growth mindset is important to ensure you are always learning from each situation to continually improve outcomes and to not be afraid of taking calculated risks.

Often times a job description ends with “other duties as assigned”. It is these opportunities that I have learned and grown the most from in my career. Whether they turn out to be successful or failures, it will be worth the risk. This is why a growth mindset is the most essential to a person’s career. The events that push your boundaries, comfort, and thinking are going to be the most powerful when you look back.

Collaborating and co-creating needs two things from a HR professional: 1. Know what others do: HR is the component that connects people across an industry. Knowing what Operations, Sales, Marketing and Support divisions of your industry do (and therefore what they need) is fundamental to successful HRM. It helps in orienting policies, programs and training to address the present and emerging challenges in other domains. That contributes to better productivity. 2. Be sensitive. People need HR because a good HR makes them devote more energy in the fields in which they contribute to the company's objective. It is necessary to bear in mind that HR produces good morale. Everything else the company is established for, are produced by others.

Change is the only constant in life, and accepting it as normal can be challenging but necessary for growth. As an innovator and small business owner, I've learned to embrace change as an opportunity for evolution and improvement. I agree, and I would go a step further saying that the business strategy is the people strategy and the people strategy is the business strategy. These are not two separate missions . With a pragmatic approach and a progressive approach to people and culture, a business will thrive by having high engagement, a strong EVP, and creating a strong sense of purpose around the business goals. In most organisations, there’s no need for fancy systems, complex policies and rules. A clear and holistic strategy provides the purpose from which all departments can develop and grow efficiently

Being your authentic self is a skill. This means accepting that you're not perfect, and that's okay. Understanding this allows us to extend the same grace to others, recognizing that we all come from different places, backgrounds, and times. When we misinterpret words or hear differing perspectives it's important to realize most people mean well. Embrace your imperfections, appreciate others' unique viewpoints, and forgive as needed.
