Communication is key. One think I have found helpful is always being able to communicate what is happening. Everyone in your sphere of influence must be in the know how. If you are able to speak face to face, thats more appropriate. Otherwise a call, text or email will suffice to keep people in the loop. Even if it is not asked of you, always communicate the good and bad. I believe this keeps things moving and flowing smoothly. When there is a lack of communication of even no effective communication, things go wrong. Try it and see how everything changes.

I believe there are several very important skills that are necessary in the hospitality industry to be successful. Some of these skills apply to all industries and I also believe the current education system could be modernized to accommodate the honing of these skills driving engagement in this industry and others. Communication is key, yes, but moreover conflict management is a must have skill. The hospitality industry requires empathy, great listening skills and more to conquer the modern somewhat disruptive behavior being seen on a regular basis in the industry by guests. Critical to success and reducing escalation of issues that can lead to harmful circumstances for both the guest and employees needs to be a primary focus area.

Hands on hospitality managers are the best. They lead by example and listen to their team, while always looking for ways to improve or simplify their work. A good leader knows how to make quick decisions, communicate clear objectives, and motivates their team to succeed.
