In the learning organization model, leaders are argued to conduct an analysis of their own mental model and personal mastery for the shared vision with teams and the organization as the whole (Senge, 1990). Mental model is a process of understanding your own vision, thinking pattern and personal goals. You need to align your mental model with organization vision. You need a strategic leadership skill to align your organization vision and goals with teams through shared vision and team learning. What leadership style will you apply with teams? In my experience, culture is the top concern and priority when building and joining a team. It is also very easy to get distracted and to lose sight of how every decision is a reflection of your team’s culture. Leaders should set very intentional and purposeful goals around culture and make them a top priority, especially on the outset of joining or creating a team. There are numerous things you can get wrong, but culture can overcome just about all of them. In my estimation, if you get culture wrong, good luck. Things tend to fall apart. Most people intuitively know what type of culture a team has after a couple of days. Maybe it is not easy to articulate, but you know.
