Big amount of data is created from healthcare industry and anyone wanting to solve the puzzles of strategy must overcome the complexity by having excellent analytical skills to turn data into information and setting strategic directions for the business.

Also need experience in administration of healthcare systems preferably start from less responsibility positions to highest ones because will see the good, the bad and the ugly from there own experience in the field. You learn from your good decisions and bad ones. Mentoring is very important in the healthcare system.

I have worked with physicians for almost 17 years throughout my career before becoming a healthcare communication strategist. Understanding the challenges of the healthcare environment, its complexities and regulatory requirements is of utmost importance. A good healthcare strategist knows how to deliver value with both creative and compliant solutions. Most importantly, these solutions need to be sustainable over time in order to build trust and make an impact.

One thing I have found to add that communication skills are key to start, progress and end a process. Communication can be of various ways involving language, body gestures, facial expressions, your voice level, your way of interaction with the audience. Strategy can only be built if you have an ability for looking at both macro and retain data objectively from micro experiences. A very in-depth role in any one vertical sometimes secludes one from being able to create a 360 perspective. An understanding of Human psychology forms the fundamental of how a strategy needs to be structured and delivered.

Another skill to consider is an ability to clearly analyze and critique data. This knowledge can act as a decision aid, ensuring the correct strategy is being put in place.
