2 The types of corporate accounting

As a former COO of a $25M/year company, I had to understand financial statements, of course, but I learned that the keys to look for were the month-to-month variances, and looking for the reasons behind numbers that were surprising in a good or bad way. Our finance meetings were often the kick-off to some sort of internal fact gathering, and kept management very hands on with the business.

Más que saber de contabilidad, es entender que las operaciones/ transacciones, tienen impacto directo en las finanzas de la organización (i.e. contabilidad, cash flow, impuestos, presupuesto) y por ende, siempre deberá acompa?arse del equipo financiero y contable. De esta manera se podrán reflejar de manera razonable la operación.

To name some, Vendor and Customer Reconciliation, Corporate and Individual Taxation, Forex Accounting, Intercompany Loans, Accounting for reimbursement for different Expenses for employees, following Statutory Laws implications, External and Internal Audits, preparation of Notes to Accounts, HR related Payroll accounting, both Operating and Finance Lease accounting, Budgeting and Forecasting, dealing with Enabling Function heads, maintaining Fixed Assets Register and ensuring Depreciation, dealing with various Government Offices, arranging Foreign Exchange for travel abroad and accounting for the same.

A COO must understand key metrics (EBITDA, Gross Profit), tax position, budgets, forecasts, debtors levels, liquidity etc. no Portfolio by gunning a company which had liquidity issues. If they don’t know or understand, I’m happy to provide bespoke Finance For Non-Finance training. I specifically developed it due to Account Managers who thought numbers had nothing to do with them. Sorry but a COO’s actions drive the numbers.
