First thing is to go for Green Hydrogen as that's the cleanest form of energy with both input and output as green. Storing is a challenge as H2 is to be compressed too much to bring to a liquid state in a cryogenic tank. Means storage is at a very high pressure so the storing vessel needs to be passed by any explosive institute for its quality. Carrying is another challenge as H2 is generally not used at the source of generation but to be carried at far away places. It's not like CNG or LPG pipelines so generation, storage and distribution all are challenging as on date in India but this is the best fuel for EVs and it will pick up fast. Green Ammonia conversion is a must for cost effective and safe storage / transportation as I am given to understand .. Hydrogen is thin gas hence designing transportation and storage is not cost effective at the same time it is not safe ..

By using the right stainless steel material in combination with metal hydrides - all the safety risk can be avoided. Hydrogen will be stored as a solid, and the discharge process is an endothermic process, so in the unlikely event of a leak the hydrogen leak will result in lowering the temperature and the leak self seals when it freezes to ice. Type 3-4 cylinders including jumbo cylinders are better than type 1-2 because they are built from composites! But type 1-2 are also recommended provided the properties of steel can withstand the embrittlement.

I would add up cryogenic burn, frostbite. The harm effects of cryo-compressed hydrogen are a relevant hazard, considering their effects of accidental releases, & their hazards need to be investigated. Of course, other technologies, such as sensors, valves, and coatings, also play crucial roles in enhancing safety. These standards should specify the minimum mass flow rate (leak rate) at which hydrogen gas leaks should be detected, both in indoor and outdoor installations, by the fixed gas detection system. By establishing such clear definitions, it would enhance safety measures, facilitate consistency in risk assessment, and enable effective prevention and mitigation strategies for potential hydrogen gas incidents.

Hydrogen, like any other fuel like gasoline, CNG, diesel is a combustible material. It’s the properties of the fuel one must keep in mind when it comes to working with it. With the case of hydrogen, it is the smallest molecule (leakage and permeability), needs low ignition energy(very small energy exposure can create ignition), light (it will move up and in enclosed spaces and may get trapped) , has low volumetric energy (you need higher pressure or liquefaction to store more), large combustion band (LEL HEL band is wide)And it causes embrittlement (right material selection in important).
