When to be Transparent depends on the stakeholders, potential impact of non disclosure on the stakeholders and on statutory/certification requirements. While in certain circumstances, transparency may appear to be counter intuitive, in times of crisis, it plays crucial role in limiting long term damage to a business or business reputation. Add to that, non transparency and non disclosure can also result in multifold increase in losses due to potential cost of non compliance. Transparency becomes non negotiable when it is dictated by various statutes (for example, GDPR and HIPAA), and not necessarily limited to the region in which a business operates.

Shirking responsibility, undermining the affects and over explaining are some of the important things to avoid during Crisis communication.
