We can calculate safety stock by determining the average daily demand and the average lead time. Next, calculate the variability (standard deviation) for both daily demand and lead time. Once you have these values, you can use a widely used formula which is : Safety Stock = Z × √((Lead Time × Demand Variability2) + (Daily Demand2 × Lead Time Variability2)), where Z is the service level factor based on your desired service level. This calculation ensures you maintain extra inventory to cover unexpected increases in demand or delays in supply, minimizing the risk of stockouts.

Ensure that assortment planning and forecasting are not solely based on ABC analysis but also on specific market mapping. Analysis should not be conducted only at the national level but should be broken down to regional or even city levels if there are very specific market conditions. 2. Recheck sales data based on the destination city of shipments, not just where the sales order was created. 3. Ensure the entire sales team has good product and market knowledge, as sales patterns in an area can often become biased due to poor product knowledge and comfort zones!
