Reading around subjects helps to build up your knowledge, books and articles I have read in my spare time have helped me to gain roles and speak more confidently in meetings. Learn about a range of Environmental subjects, if your focus is too narrow it may limit the roles you can apply for in the future, keep learning to help broaden your knowledge and skills.

We have so many documents and detail in this sector that it is easy to get lost in it all, never mind communicate points to others. The ability to summarise concepts, tasks, policies & processes into simpler form, helps with clarity and understanding. Take a step back to digest it before writing it out, read it back to yourself aloud to see if it flows and is easy to understand. This has helped me a lot.

from my experience, an environmental consultant or expert or even an advisor wears many hats, scientist, communicator, advocate, and strategist, someone who embodies these qualities, with a passion for Sustainability and cares about the environment, because passion drives creativity & innovation,& commitment to finding sustainable solutions, holistic thinking to see the bigger picture & understand how actions in one area impact others, resilience and adapt to changing circumstances, systems thinking to analyse & identify points, unintended consequences, and feedback, reports, presenting findings, or engaging with stakeholders, scientific and researcher skills and business acumen, & problem solver, and cultural skills to drive the change
