1 What is a VTP domain?

A VTP domain is a group of switches that share the same VTP configuration and exchange VLAN information using VTP messages. A VTP domain has a name, a password, and a version. The name and the password must match among all switches in the domain, otherwise they will not communicate. The version determines the format and features of the VTP messages. There are three versions of VTP: version 1, version 2, and version 3. Version 3 is the latest and most flexible one, and it supports extended VLANs, private VLANs, and multiple instances of VTP.

2 How does VTP work?

VTP works by using a client-server model. In a VTP domain, there are three types of switches: server, client, and transparent. 5 How to configure VTP?

VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP) - VTP is a Layer 2 messaging protocol that was designed?to manage the creation and deletion of VLANs?and maintain network-wide VLAN database consistency.?Using this protocol, a network administrator can add or delete VLANs and have those changes automatically propagated to all other switches in the network.
