Automation is great. Complacency is not. In IT nowadays there's a huge corporate appetite to automate tedious tasks. However, as with every other IT system, automation can also break. As IT professionals we need to be mindful whether or not that specific automated task can still be completed manually if the automation becomes unavailable. Even with automation we should continue to find a means of redundancy or contingency during the eventual unexpected downtime, and continue to monitor if the automated tasks are being completed to the standards required.

I concur with this. Collaboration is the way to go. Without collaboration, one seems to operate on their own, which is not the case for IT operations. Collaborate, delegate, leverage others and embrace being able to communicate effectively, not just to he heard but to communicate.

When you find someone uttering the phrase "But that's how we've always done it" about something, it may be time to look at ways on improving that thing in question. Change for the sake of change is pointless. However, change that adds value, generates efficency, or makes work easier should always be welcomed.
