What new Web3 innovations can you use to stay ahead?

The reason world wide Web (w3c) started the work on web3 was identity. The DID ( decentralised identity) is introduced to solve this problem of web. Web was not intended or no one has foreseen it would be used for everything we do. Existing, socialising, communications, expressing, finances.. Endless to list. We now identify ourselves on million interaction points on the internet. Passwords, memorable words and eventually hacking is a consequence of the original web not having identity layer. Web3 introduces interoperable identity and a seamless experience, authenticating and representing ourselves as well as owning our identity. Without identity not only web3 but internet and web is broken.

DID presents a transformative approach in the Web3 landscape, addressing the critical issue of maintaining a consistent and secure identity across diverse platforms without depending on central entities. By leveraging cryptographic techniques and verifiable credentials, DID empowers individuals with control over their digital personas, ensuring access to Web3 services while safeguarding privacy and personal data. The involvement of leading initiatives in crafting DID standards and protocols signifies a collaborative stride towards a more user-centric and privacy-preserving digital ecosystem. This movement marks a significant step in redefining digital interactions, placing the power of identity management firmly in the hands of users.

I strongly believe it's important to consider how we show up online and how our data is being managed. Decentralized identity offers a foundational shift from traditional, centralized identification systems to one where users have complete control over their identity and personal data. For example, to stay ahead in this fast-paced and always-evolving space, users can consider registering to obtain an ENS Domain. ENS domains can serve as a universal username across dApps, wallets, and blockchain services, paving the way for a cohesive and user-friendly digital identity framework. Instead of a confusing long string of numbers and letters '0x4cbe58c50480...', you can have a clear identifier similar to 'alice.eth'.

The goal behind DeFi has always been to realise an open and permissionless financial infrastructure. Unlike TradFi which takes a KYC first approach, DeFi focuses on democratising the data, tools, and value rails that were once exclusive to privileged persons. While each has their own benefits, one thing for certain is that DeFi technology is a leap forward in terms of operational efficiency (no more T+2, data recons, etc.). Moreover, in line with open-banking initiatives, DeFi protocols are natively composable enabling different financial functions to be combined with ease. The DeFi model is one which prioritises value add rather than privileged access. Competition benefits the users while users always maintain ownership of their assets.

Key DeFi platforms like MakerDAO, Compound, Uniswap, Aave, and Synthetix exemplify this shift, offering diverse financial services on blockchain technology. DeFi's growth reflects a significant move towards democratizing finance, empowering users with more control and flexibility over their financial dealings.

EigenLayer innovates in the DeFi space by introducing a marketplace for validation through ‘restaked rollups’. This technology allows $ETH validators to extend Ethereum’s decentralization and security benefits to any application. So, anyone can develop a rollup specifically for their applications, effectively creating a dedicated network. We often trust centralized services for data storage, despite risks of loss and downtime. NFTs are clearly a natural starting point when it comes to innovation in Web3 - and as products, they are evolving too. They can be used for proof of ownership (such as digital art), but also for things like new methods of running loyalty programs. It's important to stay up to date about use cases of things like NFTs, because they're changing all the time - and the tech that seems clunky yesterday will quickly become dominant.
