What new cloud roles interest you?

The role of a Cloud Architect is evolving rapidly as cloud technology continues to advance. Beyond technical proficiency, they must also navigate the growing complexities of compliance, cost optimization, and sustainability in the cloud environment. Collaboration and adaptability will be key skills as they orchestrate seamless integration of cloud services across diverse projects, harnessing the full potential of multi-cloud and hybrid solutions. Specialization in emerging fields like AI will likely become critical for future Cloud Architects.

Cloud computing offers a variety of specialized roles—Cloud Architects design solutions requiring deep technological insight. Cloud Developers build applications, mastering both programming and cloud services. Cloud Consultants provide strategic advice, utilizing a broad understanding of cloud trends. Cloud Security Engineers focus on system security, requiring expertise in protective protocols. Cloud Data Engineers manage data solutions, requiring data tech knowledge. Cloud Support Engineers troubleshoot issues with strong diagnostic skills. Cloud Administrators oversee cloud infrastructure, demanding a solid understanding of cloud tech. Each role has unique responsibilities and requires specific skills, reflecting the complexity.

The definition of Architect is a person that has in depth knowledge and real world experience, also considered a subject matter expert in designing a solution customized to the client needs and focused on achieving the results that the client needs from the solution Clients that want to quickly adopt new technologies and get the desired results should hire Architect in that specific field Example: Cloud Architects

Cloud Developers by definition do not maintain a production deployment. After an Architect designs a solution, the developers build it in a laboratory environment and get the approval from the Architect/ client that it is able to deliver the requirements

A cloud consultant plays a more diagnostic role while also promoting the adoption of cloud services. Hence, a cloud consultant will need to have an understanding of the cloud and different cloud providers. Using this understanding, they will advise on the next course of action, for instance, whether and how an organization can leverage on the cloud.

The cloud security engineer needs to apply security segmentation (at different levels) into the cloud environment, and needs to know the different models and capabilities the cloud offers to it. He is also responsible for the protection of Data, Identities, workloads and other cloud resources according to the consumed Cloud model (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).

I'd also add that there are Cloud DevOps engineers, a well established role very relevant in cloud environments. They are responsible for implementing processes throughout the development lifecycle -using recommended methodologies and tools-. They also build and deploy software and infrastructure delivery pipelines, balancing service reliability and delivery speed.

I can also add that there are cloud architects and solution architects. Cloud architects work similarly to cloud developers only that they offer their services to one or a few companies where they translate their expertise to the development of company-specific solutions. For solution architects, their work is largely high-level as the name suggests, they recommend solutions which can be implemented by the different cloud roles, and as such, they work with a wider range of companies/clients.
