What motivates you as an e-learning consultant?

Learning never ends, it is the beginning of a new journey of exploration in e-learning. With technology and affordability easy and quick learning practices.

I was a “twice exceptional” child, in that I had both a disability and could read and write above my grade level. That duality sparked my interest in neurodivergence. As a fourth grader I struggled with basic addition and could not understand a basic map or recognize patterns, but I was reading the neurological case studies of Oliver Sacks and developing an understanding of psychology and language above my grade level. I was curious, creative, and lopsided in my abilities. This experience of learning differently than others has fueled my passion for learning experience design, especially for options that enable access for different kinds of brains, and for creative solutions that leverage divergent thinking and natural curiosity.

As a technology professional, I have to learn new things to make me updated with the change of the technology. My inner instinct says that I will be able learn quickly and easily if I learn through e-learning. Content of e-learning make the reading and learning process easier. Furthermore, through online education, I will gain access to a diverse range of perspectives from well-known and knowledgeable individuals, which will aid in clarifying the subject matter. I will be able to learn about the newest technology faster and more easily online than through any other media.

The true motivation lies in the impact of my work. Witnessing the transformation of individuals and organizations through effective e-learning solutions brings unparalleled satisfaction. Knowing that my efforts contribute to tangible improvements in learning outcomes and professional development is what keeps me dedicated and driven.

My instinct says that the purported motivation for e-learning consultants, revolving around impact and satisfaction, may be overrated. While they claim pride in outcomes, it could be mere self-affirmation. Positive feedback might be selective, and testimonials biased. The alleged fulfillment in contributing to social and professional development appears subjective, potentially masking the lack of tangible impact. In times of crisis, change, and uncertainty, their perceived significance might be inflated, creating an illusion of importance rather than actual value.

Online learning is an avenue with tremendous scaling potential. As a technical elearning consultant, I enjoy working on projects to deploy learning solutions that can reach underserved communities or groups, and bring global perspectives to them. The logistics of bringing together content or subject experts to a class of hundreds or even thousands of participants in a face-to-face setting may not be feasible or practical, and that is where eLearning really shines. Of course, there are many groups without access to the internet or mobile devices, and there are several groups globally working to bring low cost solutions to these communities.

One of the great benefits that technology offers is the democratization of high-quality education. In my experience as a consultant, I have found that in various rural countries, there is limited access to good schools or universities. However, now education can be democratized with just an internet connection. Although internet access remains the primary barrier, there are increasingly more opportunities for internet reach in areas where it was previously unavailable. With access to a device and the internet, students can learn from the best teachers using standardized methodologies. What excites me the most is precisely this: the potential to democratize education for people who would otherwise not have access.

I am a self-described tech and tool nerd. As I try out tools, I grow and develop but I flip the script and put myself in the shoes of future intended audiences: what might best add to their knowledge and skill sets. Collaborating with others to explore how and what they want/need then testing out what works best, selecting the right tools, the right assessment to verify learning. If done well, the path to learning is as fulfilling as the learning itself.

Thriving on perpetual learning, consultants constantly evolve with the dynamic e-learning landscape. They fearlessly experiment and innovate, adapting to diverse contexts. Some general technical tips when designing elearning content: Split content into bite-sized chunks. Several shorter videos with knowledge checks in between can be more effective than a single long video. Ensure the quality of production does not detract from the message. Low quality video of someone teaching at a blackboard is one extreme, and participants may not feel engaged or connected during this experience. eLearning content should engage participants to feel a connection to the presenter or the content. There are many more to be considered, but the best tip I can close with is that the content should be carefully planned using solid pedagogical methodologies to both attract and retain learners.

One thing I found helpful in order to stay motivated and see your goals as fresh and juicy 2-5 years later is by not over working! We jump into it and simply burn out, we exhaust our resources and not recharge them it time! It’s important to have the balance ??

A key engagement that is frequently overlooked is a conversation with the technical teams who try to provide high performing platforms balanced with budget and the participants involved. Some metrics that the technical experts would want to know, and this is a starting point for a deeper discussion: Total number of users Estimated concurrency of users Size of course materials Number of courses Possible integrations/linkages to other enterprise systems By including these professionals in the discussion early, and of course having all the requirements well documented, a solid foundation is likely for the success of an elearning project.

With the click of a button, individuals from all walks of life can now gain access to valuable educational resources and expand their skill sets without ever leaving their homes. This innovative approach to learning has opened up countless opportunities for personal growth and professional development, making it easier than ever before to bridge the gap between education and accessibility.

Keeping your motivation throughout the design and implementation process can prove challenging at times. Being resilient while managing an E-learning project is crucial. Your ability to fully comprehend the subject, its intricacies and to have a clear understanding of the desired outcome, will ensure that the final product delivers the expected results. Keep motivation alive by constantly learning more about the subject, the organizational culture, and the on-the-job activities of learners. Keep yourself current. Don’t overlook small but important details like: Using the appropriate terminology Using the appropriate slang whenever necessary Choosing references and citations from relevant sources Using current real world examples

My instinct says that as an e-learning consultant, the driving force lies in the passion for learning, and finding immense satisfaction in making an impact. The desire for personal growth and overcoming challenges fuels motivation. Striking a balance and setting boundaries ensures sustainable productivity. My core value as a professional is giving and making a difference. That is what motivates to share knowledge in a teaching and learning environment. E- learning helps learners/ professionals who do not have time to go for face to face sessions. I like to make learning easy and fun in the online platform mode. That high engagement which we see in a physical room can be created in a virtual room through number of strategies by an e-learning consultant. My motivation is to try and convert learning complex concepts into simple easily digestible concepts and make learning fun and easy for the learners. For me it is all about sharing knowledge and making a difference in lives of learners through the new set of knowledge/ skills.
