Since most historical subjects are made of wood, stone or mud photogrammetry produces excellent results with little intervention. Additionally the photo data can be stored for future 3D reconstruction if in the case of a disastrous event, a detailed record of the artifact is still available without upfront processing cost or storage. Combining laser scan data allows for even more complex photo captures, such as combined exteriors and interiors.

For creating textures, you can take your own photos and integrate some of those details into apps like Substance Painter, also take advantage of the normal maps and height maps, you can create lots of detail of hard surface with that method. In terms of texturing having close references is beneficial. Try incorporating those small details, such as dirt, dust, rust, and scratches.
