If you want to join a robotics company (not a research project), make sure to show some relevant business experience of your robotics projects, regardless of whether you are an engineer or business background

You need to be able to demonstrate enough experience and skill to prove that you can hit the ground running in the role you are applying for. Most robotics companies don’t have the luxury of putting brand new hires through a bunch of training or schooling… they need people that can execute right away. Get right to the point in your interview - talk details on YOUR role in prior robotics projects. Go into detail, prove to them that you understand the algorithms/software/hardware and that you know how to implement them successfully. During my robotics job interview, I brought a portfolio highlighting my diverse projects. I emphasized not only the successful outcomes but also the challenges faced and how I overcame them. This showcased my problem-solving abilities and practical skills.

Show them that you have the technical skills necessary for the job. An industrial position will require knowledge of reading and writing electrical and pneumatic schematics, designing an effective end of arm tool, strong programming skills, strong communication skills, and most importantly the ability to problem solve.

I carried a few documents with me. I handed two documents each to each of the two interviewers in the office. Those were copies of my CV. And my portfolio. I kept the last sheet of paper with me. Then the interviewers began their company presentation. They shared their company values, goals and products. Then they asked me questions. About my work, my projects, technical and non-technical questions. A typical interview. This was followed by "Do you have any questions?" This was my opportunity. I had been waiting for this. I glanced at my sheet of paper and asked very specific questions related to their products, their vision, and the job profile. They were not expecting this. They were impressed. Needless to say, I got the job.

Before the interview, prepare details about your potential employer CUSTOMERS. It works very well to connect a potential robotic application, linking to the client's name. This shows that you have done your homework. Knowing the customers shows that the business is not foreign to you, and going into the technical details of the application shows that you can combine business with technical matters. I'm always very impressed when someone puts effort into research. This is a very good predictor for an employer.

Pro trick: if you have to prepare a presentation, use the exact color codes of the companies website for your template, so it feels natural.

I think apart from a great CV, you should back up your academic/industrial experience with: 1. Success story: This is unique to the person and easy to resonate with. You can highlight even small achievements with a personal touch. 2. Cover letter: Be consistent with what you have mentioned in your cover letter. Emphasize the most important points from the cover letter during your interview. 3. Be honest: Please consider that you can't be an expert in every other subfield in robotics. If you only have an overview of the topic, limit your discussion to the overview. However, you can always highlight your excitement go deeper into the topic, or learn an entirely new topic. Overall, tailor the interview according to your unique personality

Reach out to one of the company employees casually and get to understand what is one of the major hectic issues they weren't able to solve. before reaching the end of the interview propose to them how are you going to solve it but not in full details, keep them hanging so they call you back and get to know the complete propsal

Most Engineering related job interviews try to measure your Engineering sense, if you demonstrate how you solve problems which is one of the most important Engineering skills you will be in good shape.

Prior for the interview, do some research on the company’s nature of business and try to correlate your working experience. Enlighten the interviewer that you are suitable for the position and be part of their great team. Whatever skills that you have written on portfolio, make sure you’re fully understood and able to provide in-depth explanation when being asked.

Since robotics is nowadays a very vast field of expertise, specialisation became de-facto trend , butit limits the job seeker market: a good knowledge about the targeted company gives a hint about what robot platforms and technologies are developed: it means that the candidate should prepare himself and brush up on the fundamentals and knowledge increasing his chances to join the business, if he is interested in that specific activity.

Does it need to be just about robotics? i do not think so !... we live in a global world, where everything shrunk around the activity of the company, which means 'all-in-one' approach to projects, products and portfolio's. When seeling yourself to a company, you are selling in fact not only your personality but mainly your skills: you need to be knwoledgaeable in your main specialty, but you need also to know everything around it : in the case of robotics, that would be AI, control theory, sensing, engineering, mechanics, electrical/electronics, mechatronics, and sometimes, because of the application also hydraulics, pneumatics, a specific science (bio, food, agriculture,...): Robotics are today EVERYBODY's tool

Often at a job interview, a question is asked that is hard to answer without preparation. Sometimes they ask about dreams, sometimes about the future, selected parts of the past, successes, and distinguishing features. With such questions it is very easy to come off - average. In short, answer as anyone would answer. Find examples of qualities. Are you hardworking and consistent? OK. Show it. E.g.? A series of 300 days in a row of learning Spanish in a language learning app. A running app showing you running 5 kilometres every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for the past 3 years. Stand out and back up your words, with facts. WORKS INSANELY.

Be specific when answering behavioral questions. Use specific examples from your past experiences that showcase your skills and achievements in robotics. This will help you stand out from other candidates and demonstrate your expertise in the field.

I agree with the article, but article doesn't stress the need to remove "WE" from your "STARs" and as well as the general answers to interview question. As hiring managers, we understand you may have worked in a team environment and we appreciate that you are crediting the team for success made as a team, but we are not hiring your team, we are hiring you. I cannot over emphasize the need that you clearly articulate "YOUR" task, action, and result. Otherwise, we waste valuable interview time on answers that don't help us get to know you as the candidate.

You should show an attitude that makes you likable among your colleagues. You should show interest in job but do not look desperate. For example, if the job advertisement is for the skill set A and they ask your interest in B, don’t say that you want to do B. You should diplomatically say that your primary focus is A but if B is required for the growth of the company then you will certainly do B. Always take a pause after the questions. In that way, you can get time to channelize your thoughts and interviewers will also feel comfortable.

No one person can master all the technical aspects and details of a field or domain. Therefore, in addition to the basic and fundamental technical aspects and the demonstration of some specific knowledge and skills, behavioral and attitudinal issues can be a good indicator of how a person will behave in situations of pressure, uncertainty, or when faced with the unknown. Sometimes, more than answering a question right or wrong, more than demonstrating mastery of a technical detail in the moment, it is the attitude that matters. Being confident, staying calm, communicating clearly, and explaining how you'd handle a situation with little or incomplete information can make all the difference.

This is so important. I interview candidates who don't seem excited about what they do. But when I interview a candidate who is genuinely passionate about the field (and company), they will probably move to the next interview. At the very least, I will remember them and may reach out when I'm filling another role.

The most convincing way to show your passion for robotics in a job interview is to talk about your private robot projects that you are working on in your spare time and to reflect on what you have learned from those projects.

Above all, show passion for the company and why that role seems to be a fantastic move for you as your next career step to grow.

It's one thing to tell you are passionate, and it's another thing to really proof that you are passionate. Make yourself visible! Post pictures on your Instagram of your projects, when you visited exhibitions and conferences, or make a blog.
