What are the most important safety considerations for fleet operations?

Devemos pensar que o fator humanos sempre é o maior risco para o desempenho da seguran?a da frota. Por isso, acredito que profissionais bem selecionados e treinados s?o aqueles que se comprometer?o em observar e praticar todas as recomenda??es abordadas nas capacita??es. Considero um risco enorme entregar um veículo a um condutor que n?o esteja familiarizado com o equipamento e que n?o receba treinamento em boas práticas de transporte, tanto do ponto de vista de preven??o de acidentes quanto do próprio uso do veículo.

In my experience Saftey training is the foundation of most training programs. Teaching safety into the process will make it an instinct. We have to educate and promote solid practice of these skills with the team members. Training without follow through by leadership is just waste of time. There is something to be said about candidate selection as well. I fully believe that there is a right seat for most and finding the correct seat will not only make for a happy team but a successful one.

While selecting the best drivers, training, compliance & documentation, setting policy & procedures and monitoring are crucial, another factor to consider and the real key to safety lies in building strong professional relationships with your drivers. Communicate openly and regularly, not just about work but also on a personal level. This could involve open discussions about their well-being, team-building activities, or simply ensuring they feel valued and heard. By fostering these connections and prioritizing their well-being, drivers are more likely to approach their jobs with a clear mind and focus on safety.

To ensure safety in fleet operations we need to ensure below 1) Vehicle condition 2) Driver training, selection 3) Regular medical check up of drivers ex -eye sight 4) Driver routine to ensure he is getting sufficient rest 5) Speed monitoring 6) vehicle maintenance tracking through automated way, like if vehicle maintenance is due a email triggering the same.

Constantly evaluating the driver performance is very important as it provides a safe process compliance. It will also keep the drivers updated and vigil

Vehicle maintenance and inspection: It's important to have a pre and post check list for checking the health of the vehicle. The pre and post check list must be religiously followed to avoid any complications, delay and life hazard in the transit. The driver also needs to be trained with basic fixes in case of break down. All the hubs and x-docks teams should carry these checks after the vehicle is checked-in and before the releasing of the vehicle. It is also important to take feedback from drivers after each trip on the condition of the vehicle.

Vehicle maintenance can be the difference in everyone’s safety. At a time when insurance premiums are at an all time high it also doesn’t help the average freight rate. If a piece of equipment doesn’t meet safety requirements it should be mentioned to the driver, operations, and avoid being loaded until it can return in good standing working order. Address the issues but do not continue to support it with business until safe. This is my opinion but we are all drivers impacted by the safety and maintenance of every vehicle more importantly those used for transportation of goods.

Humans are the top rank of risk in all accidents or incidents. Having a procedure in place doesn't automatically deliver a good operation unless there are competent people in the organization which have a good safety culture and good communication among others.

Safety is directly proportional to the efficiency of an organization and every effort related to safety is a contribution to the company's progress. Also, it's often seen as the safety guidelines written on paper, painted on walls but no one is interested in following them. We need to ensure that every single person who is involved in operations is aware of the effectiveness of the safety guidelines and repercussions if we don't follow them. We need to make it more interactive and in the local language to make it effective till ground level.

The culture of safety cannot be driven overnight. It's a host of actions consistently implemented over a period of time. What are the best practices the organization is implementing. What behaviour is being rewarded. Rewards and recognition go a long way to instill the right kind of behaviour.

Avant tout, il ne faut oublier qu’il y a le facteur humain. Une somme de process d’annihilera jamais le facteur humain. Il faut ainsi traiter parfois non pas le facteur de risque , mais les éléments externes. Pour moi il est aussi important de traiter le facteur de risque , que ces conséquences . Le risque va se produire . Ce n’est pas un si mais un quand . Il faut donc penser à traiter sa survenance. Enfin, penser aux conditions dans lesquels s’exécute les actes . Plus nous raccourcissons le temps , plus la propensions à risque augmente. Pour diminuer les risques , redonnons du temps au temps !
