TBH, if the API is poorly documented, especially if this persists, I would seriously consider working with that system/company. API documentation in this day and age is a must and there are excellent solutions in the market to publish and maintain updated detailed specs. Failure to produce it, hints a poor delivery model , which puts in question the quality of the technology in the first place
