Team work and accountability are the key words to motivate any team. Assure them they are accountable but as a team head you will take the responsibility but not the credit for their achievements. As rightly said " when we tell people to do their job we get workers. When we ask people to get the job done, we get leaders."

Context is key. Set clear expectations and success criteria, then let your team do their thing. Give them the autonomy and support they need to succeed, and don't micromanage.

I am in agreement when it comes to the communication of the vision and purpose. If the team doesn't know where they are heading it is a problem. When everyone knows why we exist and which part they play in the formation it becomes easy for them to contribute to the success of the team. As a leader I involve my team members, in that way you show them that they are part of the process. If I know that my contribution is valued, I will go an extra mile. Also, as much as we call to order the wrong things that members could be doing, in the same token we need to compliment and appreciate the good job done. I think it is also important to make sure that if/when a path different than suggested is chosen that those people who made suggestions know their ideas were seriously considered and not disregarded out of hand.
