The best way to learn something is to do it without limitations or barriers, so the first thing I always do is build my own homelab on my own server and network hardware so that I can jump in and break it as much as possible without having to worry about any restrictions holding me back. I wouldn't worry about getting certified unless you are looking for a job that requires it and then focus on the specific certs that you think are most important. All the virtualization hypervisor platforms are pretty good but these day if you want to learn one with enterprise redundancy and high availability built-in, I would build a system that supports software defined storage, like an HCI solution. The main thing that I find helpful when deciding on what Virtualization Technology to go with is knowing the limitations of each Vendor in regards to VM functionality and interaction with the host hardware.

First Off asked yourself, self Why are you choosing virtualization? Have you gone through the TOC and ROI? Physical hardware is cheaper than all Licenses. This is like building a Lego. Then you need to add the different types of Licenses if you are using Rehat Enterprise or Windows Servers. Then you need to talk about Storage. If you are already an Enterprise Already using VMWare. 2024 Will be more expensive.

Platforms... Platforms... If you are an MSP or TSP. Your choices are limited depending on size, but I like Hyper-V but enjoy the integration of VMware.

Certification is great, Azure is a great place to start. This will carry over into Hyper-V as well. You do not have to pay for the courses to be certified in Virtualization. Watch videos, labs and take practice tests.
