What are the most effective ways to demonstrate your commitment to your career in telecommunications systems?

Learning is key to show your commitment in the industry. I remember when I started my career back in 2014 in 4G launch was in initial phase. After that I have always tried to be at place where continuously new learnings are happening I was fortunate enough to work on Carrier aggression, CSFB, Massive MIMO, VoLTE, SRVCC then 5G NSA, SA and now currently I am working for cloud RAN. It always excites me to learn and adapt new things in the industry which always gives me upper hand. I would highly recommend one to show your commitment towards learning, sharing your perspective on new things it naturally reflects your commitment towards industry.

Networking events are like catnip for sales people but they're also a great way to hear about what's going on in the industry, new technologies, and to develop relationships that will help you in the future. These are most effective in person for relationship building but there are several online too. Tradeshows, local meetups, charity events, etc. - all great ways to get to know others in the space. It's a bit of a numbers game but the more people you interact with, the larger your opportunity funnel.

Showing up on time, being open and willing to learn, and taking the initiative to try new things is 80% of how to get ahead in this industry. Having a positive attitude and seeking new challenges is the best way to get noticed by your employer. It sounds so simple but it's surprisingly hard to find people that fit into this category.

It's all about relationships, at the end of the day we all need to work together sometimes to solve a problem. Cutting corners, being unsafe, overcharging, or violating agreements is a fast way to burn bridges and ruin your reputation in an industry that loves to gossip

This may sound controversial but changing jobs every 4 years is another way to get ahead. Promotions and raises are easier to get by jumping to a new company despite what they will all tell you. Staying at one place for 20 years will not do you any favors when layoffs happen (in fact these days it will hurt you). Changing scenery allows you to become more well-rounded in technical understanding, fosters the ability to develop more relationships, and prevents stagnation.

While a job change might reflect the opportunity to earn more and climb the path for career progress. Upgrading knowledge areas and keeping up to date with the latest trends and technology is one of the key factors for ensuring a long term career in telecommunications, since this domain is witnessing an amalgamation with IT, AI, Cloud perpetrating a packaged solution to one of the most demanding and widely required but still lagging is the connectivity.
