You can also consider LOD, which stands for Level of details. It's a way to effectively show high detailed mesh while It's close to the camera, and show low mesh when it's far. We can prepare several mesh levels of your assets, LOD0 has the most detailed mesh, LOD1 has less meshes than LOD0, L2 is less than L1, etc. You can prepare 3 to 5 levels of your assets. But keep in mind the more levels you add, the more memory consumption it will take. LOD can give you much better details for your game while keeping the frame rate. About the extra memory usge, if you know how to code, it can also be fixed by LOD loading technique, release the higher LODs from memory while it's far, but this can cost some calculation, it's always about balancing.

The in stock renderer can be difficult to use sometimes.
