What are the most effective ways to close a workshop?

In my experience, it is important to provide time for participants to reflect, synthesize, and consolidate. Let the participants to provide a summary of the main points and holding a short discussion on the workshop’s effectiveness and processes.

My favourite way to close the program is a relay race where participants remind each other about the concepts covered in the workshop.. I just add in case they miss out on anything. This way they stay engaged and remember the concept well.

My favorite closing point is what are your key takeaways. I ask each student to share their points and also to make it relevant to their story. I also use their takeaways to build content for other workshops

Each individual should draw up a follow-up action plan, to 1. take ownership and accountability for their own development and growth 2. use it to have discussions with their managers on their development 3. proactively their managers involved in their development plan and seek feedback

I love to ask participants to share who they are grateful for. We are all learning from each other through various exercises in the workshop. It's good to hear how the contributions made impacted them.

A small thank you speech goes a long way. The trainer could talk about their experience of delivering the particular training and also thank the people for their time, participation etc. It also helps to talk a little bit about the energy exchange that takes place between the trainer and the trainees.

If the number of participants is not that big, facilitator can bid farewell to the participants by standing at the front of exit door. The facilitator then ask participants to go out one-by-one and when they are going out, facilitator do a double high-five with each participant and each participant should say one word or phrase related to what they have learned. Not only it will give great and memorable last impression, but at the same time facilitator can recall participants' memories of what they have learned.
