Building rapport with your team is key. The more your team trusts you, your knowledge, and knows you the more willing they will be to listen to you. Also pre-researching suggestions can be helpful because you've done the leg work for them which can make the difference between someone accepting the suggestion or not if they don't already know the answer.

Something I've noticed that works in convergence with the points mentioned is meeting the patient where they are at and establishing a firm foundational understanding of care and their expectations for the care. Often times patients are unaware of the myriad of choices available to them and being able to pinpoint their health literacy level and discussing care with the patient at that level helps them to understand the gravity of the choices and the expectations of treatment.

Context Matters Often times, paying attention to a patient’s non medical history such as culture and background can result in invaluable insight that results in more impactful and meaningful advocacy. This can assist in improving quality of care, addressing the root cause of the problem, or even recommending alternative but more effective treatment and recovery options.
