Least Privilege Access & Reduce Attack Surface: Enforce the principle of least privilege by granting users only the minimum level of access. Micro-Segmentation: Segment into smaller network, isolated zones to limit attackers' lateral movement. User Behavior Monitoring: Implement constant monitoring to identify suspicious user activities. Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA): This approach ensures access is granted per session, reducing the attack surface and minimizing the risk of unauthorized access.

"defense-in-depth" or "layered defense" is the concept of using multiple layers of security controls to provide redundancy and increase security, In defense in depth you are using security layers to secure your network , to assure that any weakneses is coverd by its relative solution Instead of using single point of falure like single UTM device you can layer it into FW , IDPS, Web security gateway , Packet shaper, SSL decryption , Cashing, Another real example is Redundancy to avoid security single points of failure by replicating security controls serially.

Implement various layers of security in your organization. You have to see your network as a castle. You have external measures like DMZ, Firewall, VPN that can be seen as the water around the castle, the towers and doors. Once you have proper measures on the outside, you have to implement measures on the inside to create more layers of security. You can have monitoring systems, MFA, IAM, IDS, security policies, network segmentation, etc. Those measures can be seen as the guards, rooms, security checkup, etc. Always ensure to segmentate and group your entities which can help you implement robust measures for each functions inside your operations.

Least privilage means giving least needed access for users to specific system As a real example for least privilage "Sudo" in linux Sudo runs a single command with root permissions. When a user runs a command with sudo

This puts strain on the most overlooked part of user attribution. Planning and enforcing correct privilege norms. As with a lot of things, this is often boxed up so companies will have 3-5 privilege packs and everyone will fall into some kind of a poorly thought of template.

Security by design is a powerful mindset to adopt whenever you want to implement technologies in your operations. This mindset ensure you ask the right questions so you minimize the risk of an attack on your systems. Make sure to apply the patches and updates, research on the configurations and parameters of a system, make sure to run test on any new implementation so you make sure it doesn't enter in conflict with your activities. Humans are controls also and are the first and last lines of defence. Equiping with awareness and training will help strengthen or patch. Ultimately, we should be thinking of improving culture though on the far right, with awareness and training being some of the intial steps towards this.

Real example of - Ports 80 (HTTP) and 443 (HTTPS) disabled by default in Cisco Switches - Firewalls’ default configurations are to deny all traffic from any source to any destination (deny all all). - Disable Root user by default in linux based systems - Disable access permisions options for applications in Operating Systems
