Most of the organizations overlook the quantitative analysis of identified Risks. Quantitative analysis plays a vital role in planning and budgeting contingency and management reserves.

Plan ahead, Communicate regularly, Monitor and control, Review and Test, Adapt and Improve...etc... These all practices are good to hear and present for sales pitch. When it come to actual implementation or in the middle of the work from no where if we see Production incident you have to put all your major force to look into it. In this case all the above points are go on toss. So my practice is very clear, keep some contingencies in your plan in day today activities irrespective of Waterfall or agile.

O maior impacto positivo de um projeto cascata é que para que essa metodologia de projeto funcione, é necessário que tenha um bom planejamento de escopo, cronograma e tarefas dentro do projeto, pois uma tarefa só iniciará após a anterior conclue. Em contra partida, esse também pode ser um grande risco dessa metodologia, já que temos pouca flexibilidade para eventuais mudan?as, pois pode haver tarefas que fiquem travadas e isso impactará todo o projeto em si.

Usually, the PM will communicate to Project sponsor and critical stakeholders. however, many risks ca be identified, mitigated and managed if the PM is communicating to everyone regularly and following the communication plan as documented in the initiation. All stakeholders are equal in terms of the communication. The communication plan and the expectations are very important to manage future Risks.

Risk Identification involves brainstorming, reviewing historical information of similar projects. Risk Analysis, Once risks are identified, they should be analyzed . Risk Prioritization, risks are then prioritized. Risk Responses. Avoidance-Changing the project plan to eliminate the risk. Mitigation-Taking steps to reduce the severity of the risk event. Transfer -Shifting the impact of a risk to a third party. Acceptance-Acknowledge the risk and not taking any steps unless the risk occurs. Risk Response monitor- Risk Monitoring and Control-Continuous tracking of risks is essential. Planning Risk-Documenting all risk activities is critical. Communication-Keeping stakeholders informed about risks.

Je dirais même que je positionnerais la communication avant la planification car sans communication, la planification ne sert à rien. Communiquer régulièrement en vertical et transversale, permet d’adhérer l’ensemble des équipes, des intervenants sur un projet

Personalmente creo que un control y monitoreo permanente de todas y cada una de las fases de cualquier proyecto, comparando los procesos en marcha con las líneas de base previamente planificadas, debe ser establecido procurando involucrar a todas las personas y equipos propios y externos que participan en el proyecto. Eso nos permitirá obtener información multicanal para poder detectar cualquier desviación, interna o externa,que pueda repercutir de forma negativa en la ruta hacia el objetivo marcado y, por tanto, nos permitirá adelantarnos, o cuando menos, poder corregir el rumbo para volver a consolidar los objetivos preestablecidos. Las Lecciones Aprendidas y la documentación actualizada son cruciales e indispensables.

En mi experiencia mejorar en la gestión de riesgos de los proyectos, independientemente de su ciclo de vida, es el comprender que el proyecto no es una isla y es una estructura dinámica con múltiples interacciones. Por ende, es natural que se de la evolución de requisitos debido a dependencias (internas y externas), stakeholders, factores ambientales de la organización (entorno y contexto), niveles de gobernanza y priorización de portafolio. Esto es directamente proporcional a nuevas fuentes de riesgo, así como cambios en la valoración de los riesgos, riesgos residuales y secundarios. La mejora no puede esperar saltos de proyecto a proyecto. La gestión de riesgos en el proyecto debe ser preventiva, proactiva y dinámica.

Las Lecciones Aprendidas, bien documentadas y la retroalimentación obtenida a través de los distintos actores que han intervenido, de forma total o parcial en el proyecto, independientemente del resultado final , porque tanto si el resultado no ha sido el esperado como si ha sido un éxito toda esa valiosa información servirá para corregir y prevenir futuras malas decisiones o vicios enquistados. Hay que estar siempre dispuestos a cambiar la forma de actuar o de reaccionar ante cualquier inconveniente y abrir la puerta a la flexibilidad necesaria para mejorar nuestra forma de gestionar y enfocar los proyectos y estos conocimientos traerán nuevas capacidades para aumentar las posibilidades de éxito en futuras actuaciones

La clave es aprender de las lecciones y la búsqueda constante del conocimiento, ser inquietos y buscar cómo podemos mejorar, conocer y aplicar nuevas tecnologías que nos permitan ser más eficientes en cada nuevo proyecto.

W.r.t activity list in WBS, start identifying risks involved in each activity execution. Use data/lessons from previous projects, brainstorm with Subject experts. Classify risks into various categories while involving respective SMEs. Document all identified risks openly & prioritize them based on high/medium/low or qualitative methods. Establish Probability x impact matrix & suitable contingency/ mitigation measures / alternative approaches based on what gets impacted (cost / time or both, reputation) needs to be compiled before applying text book strategies of managing risk. Not to forget to frequently do the risk management through out project life cycle, it also crucial to assign risk owner & also monitor those on watch list (low risks)
