What are the most effective methods for teaching aviation professionals to adapt to new technologies?

"BEWARE OF DEATH BY POWERPOINT" the ability to teach is a skill like any other, it must be thought properly in the first place and then practiced regularly. CBT, PowerPoint and any other training technology should be regarded an instructional aid, not as an instructor. An instructor must understand the psychology of learning and how to ascertain understanding and retention of the subject matter. When my organization trains instructors they must be able to deliver with a whiteboard and marker before they can graduate to technology based training. No technology will ever replace a good instructor. Once mastered these skills need to be practiced regularly. Every now and then, turn the computers off.

In my view, the introduction of new technologies could be more facilitated/supported by the regulations. Each technology could be adapted to different stages of the training. Once we assimilate the basic skills the next method to use is scenario-based training.

For instance, my time supervising a cargo hangar project at the airport was enriched by scenario simulations that mirrored the complexities of live operations. This dual approach ensures a deep understanding of technology and its application under varying conditions. It's not only about learning how to use new systems but also about understanding their impact on overall operations.

This is must as the first training as core of four stage/types training for developing any professional individual. After this training one can start to roll to perform under guidance of person who has completed all four stages of training. Time frame /spacing of all training sessions can be modulated after certain assessments of candidate.

In my opinion, the best way to learn is precisely in the operational scenario. Learning theory and practice together makes work flow more accurately and productively!

Scenario based training is an effective learning methodology, in particular for flight deck crew members and and air traffic controllers. One of the main disadvantages in simulated pilot training is illustrated by the limitation in actual situational awareness. Trainees have limited opportunities to experience what could happen in real life on the flight deck v simulated training. This allows pilots to combine their skills, knowledge, real life experience with what they acquire during training. Today's aircraft are very technologically advanced and require adaptation to high tech instruments and systems, a reality that requires pilots to have strong cognitive skills to understand and manage various aircraft systems. The same applies in ATM.

In my opinion, this is the most common training scenario that has proven to be effective. It works out different options for behavior in one or another situation that may arise in the course of work. The best thing about this method is that all skills go into the subconscious and therefore, in the event of an extreme situation, the specialist can perform any actions automatically.

Pilots are goal-oriented individuals, so placing them in the same scenario they encounter operationally would be a very effective way to teach them to adopt new technologies. Once they can see the advantage play out in real-time, it sticks.

Observation carefully,learn and do.Be practical in each step. As knowledge grows by sharing so it's very important always be ready to learn and share with team what you learnt.

First, I have to agree with “Thales”and “Patricia”! Everyone has a different way of learning! Some people learn better in a “classroom environment”, while others might do better in a “hands-on approach”. You are basically dealing with either a “left brain person” or a “right brain person” and I think as an “educator”or in my case “trainer”, one has to take these important details into consideration before you can teach someone and expect them to learn effectively and efficiently!

Collaborative learning all the way. It’s the best. Anything else is a compromise. Remote or web based learning takes away so much of the learning from colleagues and instructors. The move away from classroom face to face learning is a bad idea. It may save money and still satisfy the regulators but it is not good for aviation safety.

One of the key aspect that makes aviation professionals adpating new technologies is change. Change from their current process they are comfortable to a new one. Even though The new technology is efficient, often the adoption rate is very low due to the attachement with current procceses. Companies must ensure a slow transition appraoch, abrupt shift might always result poor results. We should start by changing the method but still kepping the process same and follow a clow apparoach in training employees to adapt to new technologies.

It is more effective for learners to learn when they solve problems and address tasks using real-world systems that are designed for training purposes. Respeto a los trabajadores, armonía en el entorno laboral. Cumplimiento de los contratos laborales. También cumplimiento con los contratos aerocomerciales de las transnacionales con los Estados. Por ejemplo la modernización del Aeropuerto Internacional Jorge Chávez, que sirve a la ciudad de Lima, NO están cumpliendo con las correctas vías de acceso, como es un gran puente de acceso, un ramal del metro subterráneo, ahora la transnacional que está modernizando el Aeropuerto Internacional Jorge Chávez, se responsabiliza con el Estado Peruano la culminación de dichas vías de acceso. Van a entregar el Aeropuerto sin las mencionadas vías de acceso. También cuál es el futuro de la actual pista de aterrizaje? Si cierran dicha pista de aterrizaje?
