La mejor "Herramienta", es un pensamiento sistémico, es decir ver la trasnformación Lean con un enfoque en mejoras de indicadores de corto plazo (principalmente productividad por los desperdicios), pero también en una real transformación en el largo plazo. Hay mucha gente que dice que en el largo plazo debe de haber una transformación Cultural, pero que significa eso: aprender a hacer cosas de una mejor forma a través del desarrollo de competencias. Solo quiero agregar algo, para construir la visión sistémica es necesario que conozcas la mayor cantidad de herramientas y el propósito de cada una de estas, con ello tendrás la oportunidad de usar la herramienta correcta con el propósito correcto y en el momento adecuado. VSM, in my opinion, is the most powerful tool, since we can deeply know the whole processes and see all the opportunities to be improved.

Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a vital tool in Lean Mfg., embodying the 2nd Lean principles: identifying and streamlining the value stream. As LEI defines, VSM is "A method of visually mapping a product's materials and information flow from 'door to door.' VSM provides a holistic view of the flow and can serve as a starting point to help management, engineers, schedulers, suppliers, and customers recognize waste and identify its causes. The map is a beginning, rather than an end; it should be the catalyst for an ongoing process of improvement." In my opinion, VSM is one of the most effective Lean manufacturing tools for streamlining production processes. It stands out as exceptionally powerful, not merely a tool but a comprehensive approach.

In my opinion PDCA is the right tool as it provides a standard method to achieve continuous improvement and prevents wastage of time implementing ineffective or inferior solutions.

In my view, getting the right issue to improve is the most critical part of any improvement effort. Root causes are usually known and very familiar, but they are not given the proper weight in the organizations priorities list, so they keep creating headaches every single day. Stephen Covey said extremely clearly: "put first things first"

- Identify specific goals (e.g., reducing lead times, minimizing waste) - Map the current process to find bottlenecks and redundancies - Determine key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success - Evaluate existing tools and technologies for gaps - Research potential solutions (e.g., Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, ERP systems, automation technologies, TQM) - Conduct pilot testing in a controlled environment - Gather feedback and implement continuous improvement

People centric process mapping is a simple yet powerful way to quickly identify disruptions, frustrations, and improvement opportunities. This type of process map is not a VSM, instead it maps the flow (sequence) of actual activities across time and people (roles) including connections (handoffs) between people and the methods used to complete each activity. Visualizing processes this way is particularly empowering for teams who do most of their work in systems, computers and brains with information handed from one person or system to another. The map shows details typically hidden in peoples brains and allows the team to see their actual process, identify discrepancies, and take action to improve.

This question is sooo Western! What’s the magic? Two areas of focus for going lean are: 1) What do I need to do to enhance productivity? Think hard. 2) What activities and processes that I need to have in order to collect the wisdom of the people that work for me? You go from there. Andon alone will not get you there.
