Though ESG ratings can provide a good first overview of a company's ESG performance it should not be treated as the be it all source for information. With any data source It is important to understand its objectives and target audience. Knowing that rating agencies cater for investors it is important to understand that it's finding provide a very narrow lense to a ESG performance and maturity and usually overlooks the latests trends, innovation or where the market is heading. Different ratings have different priorities like MSCI gives more weight to Governance issues hence be sure that any company in the GCC will always be behind any European one, since they don't abide by similar laws that prevail in Europe.
