This shows your effort in studying the culture and sensitivities of that country. When unsure, use an analogy familiar to your own country and position a question to the audience - what do you think of this example, how does it make you feel? English for most of the people isn't their native language and some of the mistakes occur simply because we copy the expression or syntax from our first language. I was called "sir" multiple times, but I know it was not a case of being rude, it was cultural mistake/force of habit. On the other hand it's good to change to old ways and educate yourself on modern ways of the language. Both tolerance and respect are crucial.
