An exit interview provides passive feedback when it's too late to sort things out. Two words come to mind that I have found to be synonymous with exit interviews; confidence and closure. On the exiting employees side, without fear of retribution, they have the confidence to openly share collective criticism and feedback about their job and the employer. For the employer they have the opportunity to gain closure and gain insight as to what makes an employee want to leave their organization. It is an opportunity for the employee to grow and develop. For the employer a chance to adapt and improve.

I agree that EI is really important in business. It should never be the case that data is collected without consideration for the reasons indicated in the Exit interview. HR must respond to issues/concerns raised in EI. HR should make certain that no other employee encounters the same issue. It is also important to understand that not all of the factors, such as large raises in pay (obnoxious CTC expectations) or behavioral difficulties, can be resolved. However, I believe that HR should not wait until EI to reflect on ongoing issues/concerns. We must ensure that we have multiple one-on-one sessions, satisfaction surveys, and prospects for progression in the organisation. Employees who appear demotivated must be closely monitored.
