This is the most common onboarding challenge. The planning for onboarding should be a part of the position approval process, to avoid the biggest issues. This includes ensuring a place to work, the technology and resources (and access) needed, meetings and training set up, and some "easy to digest" initial work (that is at the level of the position!)

Don't take new talent for granted and make sure to spend some time to understand one's drives and motivations and also just have some fun together! There are too many examples of professionals leaving companies early becuase the approach is inhumane and everyone pretends to be busy.
