The 2 most important components of any Project are - (1) Well-defined Requirements clearly understood by the Execution Team and a commitment from Dev teams that they are achievable (2) Readiness timeline for Customer shipment to recognize revenue goals/targets Without (1) being agreed to by all stakeholders - the goalpost will be blurred and forever moving around. How can the Project Manager even hope to hit the target (forget the bull's eye) if the goals are not crisply understood? This needs to be completed, before the formal Project kick-off and any readiness timeline commitments, by the Project Manager. Because of the complexity of today's projects - we are sometimes unraveling/solving problems, one layer at a time. Right processes must exist for Change Management over the lifetime of any active Project, for success. This means that if a change must be made to the deliverable content of a Project - we consult all stakeholders, understand risks, re-assess priorities, and agree to extended timelines as applicable.
In this particular industry, change is a constant companion that you have to learn to embrace. We all have that part of our brain that resists change and wants to stay within our comfort zone. When this feeling overwhelms me, I always try to remember that constant change is what has shaped me into the person I am today, so why be afraid of it? As someone once said, "Be water, my friend."

It is imperative to identify what these critical path activities are. The cumulative planned durations of these activities will determine the complete timeline of the project, so if the end of the chain lies beyond the governing end date, plan again! Once an acceptable plan is in place, monitor and track it diligently. Critical path activities can change when the plan deviates, so this is an iterative process. Do not be tempted to focus all your energies and efforts on ticking off easy or “low hanging fruit” tasks and be lulled into a false sense of progress.
