The market approach can use different methods, such as the market multiples method, the comparable transactions method, or the dividend discount model.
The market approach is a very powerful tool and the most common practice when valuing businesses. The most common multiple is the price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio, which measures how many times we are paying a company's net profits. The applied multiple depends on the business we are valuing. For example, growth companies not generating profits can't be valued with P/E and should be valued by applying other multiples such as EV/Sales. I recommend valuing a company by applying 2-3 different metrics to get a range and check for potential distortions in the model. Multiples from public companies can be applied to private; however, it is common to apply discounts for illiquidity, size, etc.
The market value method bases the value of the asset on its market price or its projected price when sold in the open market. In the absence of similar assets in the open market, the replacement value method or the net realizable value method is used. For example - Suppose there is a house available for sale at $100,000 but no one wants to buy it at this price. If this house is on sale for more than three months without any takers, then it implies that there is something wrong with either its location or condition or both. In such a case, one may try to reduce the price to attract buyers by bringing down its price closer to $100,000 which was originally asked by the seller before putting it up for sale in the first place.
Market approach is definitely important but with the big disclaimer that you’ll always being comparing apples vs. pears. By definition two companies will never be the same. Look for a few important characteristics to add colour to a market approach multiple analysis. E.g. when comparing EV/EBITDA look at the companies EBITDA margin track record, ROCE, backward looking and forward looking revenue growth projections

One of the key drivers is the discount rate applied to the cash flows. The problem is that the cost of equity is very difficult to estimate, and academic models such as CAPM have a lot of limitations. On the other hand, the cost of debt is much more observable and easy to estimate. I recommend creating sensitivities to the cost of equity so you can understand how every +-1% change in cost changes the valuation. Don't fall into the trap of applying a low cost of equity to increase valuation. Analyze the business, its risks, and how predictable its future may be. Unpredictable businesses should have a higher cost of equity than stable businesses with recurring profits year after year.

Important to remember the principle of garbage in is garbage out. So pay close attention to key assumptions you put into the model. Eg what’s the right WACC what’s the sensible future growth rate. Remember also the importance in the weighting of assumptions in getting the outcome valuation. Best recent example is discount rate. If base interest rates go from 0-> 4% as they’ve recently done, that leads to a dramatic change in valuation. Especially for debt loaded companies

Hybrid approach is actually the only approach you can take when valuing a company. Because single approaches in isolation will always be misleading, and not sufficiently representative. Keep in mind that a company valuation depends on its peer group but also on basic logic. If you only consider peers you’re essentially entering a circular reference. Be careful when applying market multiples as many profits reported by the companies might include extraordinary items. Avoid the shortcuts of using the reported figures by companies and try to create pro-forma figures that exclude extraordinary items. These are non-operating items that should be excluded because when we value a business, we value the operations. Some of them are: capital gains/losses derived from the sale of assets (non-operating item), extraordinary restructuring charges (one-offs that do not occur every year), goodwill impairment (losses arising from testing the goodwill recorded on the balance sheet after an acquisition. The have to be removed. However, it is a sign that the business is not going well)
