Performing computationally expensive tasks within the API itself, instead of offloading them to dedicated background jobs or asynchronous processes, can bottleneck performance. Also another example is making multiple unnecessary database calls within a loop, fetching one item at a time instead of using joins or bulk operations, is a frequent culprit. Remember, the specific bottlenecks you encounter will depend on your unique API implementation and usage patterns.
