once i worked with a espectrometer which emanated x-ray waves, the machine interpreted the results of the mineral in this case AU , it interpreted various polymorphic compounds and accurately gave values of the minerals present in the sample

C'est effectivement une technique très précise de confirmation de structures cristallines et donc d’identification de minéralisation. Les versions portables ('Niton', 'XRF' etc.) sont de très bons outils de terrain si le protocole de mesure est respecté (petit labo avec installation stable, séchage etc...). Par contre un usage direct comme "pistolet analyseur" sans précaution ne donne généralement que des valeurs qualitatives sur des seuils grossiers.

Comme dit plus haut, ces analyseurs portables sont très utiles, voire désormais obligatoires, pour l'exploration minière de nombreux éléments. Toutefois leur précision dépend étroitement des protocoles de mesures réalisés : on peut aller d'une grande précision peu éloignée des ICP/MS si petit labo de terrain, poste fixe et préparation des échantillon adaptée, à du qualitatif grossier si usage direct sur g?te sans précaution. De plus, ils ont encore peu opérants pour les éléments légers

Given that all minerals are crystalline it pays to keep your hand lens handy to see what the bulk crystals are. Thin sections are the next step in petrographic analysis using microscopes, for those who can't afford expensive XRD analysis, for transmitted light and metallic reflected light microscopy. I still use a hand lens when identifying key minerals and confirming what I already suspect. We have mainly granites, syeno pink, and grey granites, but occasionally rare very dense heavy red granodiorite. Even though subjective comparative analysis it still provides initial indication in the field.
