1 DAU and MAU

DAU stands for daily active users, and MAU stands for monthly active users. These are the basic metrics that tell you how many people are playing your game on a daily and monthly basis. They also indicate how well your game is retaining and attracting players over time. You can compare the DAU and MAU of your game across different platforms to see which ones are more popular and loyal. You can also calculate the ratio of DAU to MAU, which is called the retention rate. The higher the retention rate, the more engaged and sticky your game is.

The retention rate mentioned here is not the industry standard. Actually the retention rate can be "hard", "24h window" or "rolled" Let's say you have 100 installs. Your game retention on D1 would be: Hard: If the next calendar date, you got 50 people back, you have 50% retention. 24 h window: You have to meassure each of those 100 installs actual date and time, wait 24 hours for each individual, and then meassure how many got back. If 50 of those 100 opened it 24 hours after installing, you have 50% retention rate. Rolling retention: Users can open the game on D2, D3, DX.. and STILL count as D1 retention. So you could have 40 users entering the game on D1, but 10 of the remaining 60, opened the day after. This will give you 50% retention

2 ARPU and ARPPU

ARPU stands for average revenue per user, and ARPPU stands for average revenue per paying user. These are the metrics that tell you how much money your game is making from each player on average. They also indicate how well your game is monetizing and converting players into spenders. 3 Session Length and Frequency

Here you have to understand, that Session length needs to be meassured taking the median, and not the average. More often than not, you will have really engaged users and some that close the game 2 seconds after opening it, so the average is usually, not useful. Median it's much more consisten, but in my opinion, not sufficient. Best way to meassure session length, is to check out its distribution. You can create a chart, and bucket each user session length, and group them in buckets, that will give you a much better picture. For example, out of 100 user sessions, you could have 10 people playing 0-5 mins, 45 playing 5-10, 35 playing 10-15, 5 playing 15-20 and 5 playing 20+ When you look at this, you clearly see how much they are playing

It is important to have a robust data pipeline, consent management and universal game account. Otherwise your data may misguide you about the absolute unique player counts. Only then you will be able to determine cross-retention, cross-monetisation and better understand the player engagement across the different devices.
