There could be 2 typical approach, which could be combined. 1. Infra centric apporach, which could be CMDB integration to vulnerability platform, start onboarding the virtualization platform, network core, active directory, cloud connect, privilege access then host discovery 2. Application centric approach, which start from application internet scan, and go depth into application visibility, CI/CD visibility, libraries origin and update, static code analysis.

It’s pretty simple: if you put it into production, have a MAINTENANCE PROGRAM in place. Vulnerability scanners should be a backend check to a well-maintained system. If it’s your alpha-point, you’ll always be chasing the uncatchable rabbit.

Vulnerability scanning just for the sake of scanning is the biggest mistake I see. Running a scan is just the first step .. then comes analysis, risk assessment, mitigation, tracking etc. The scan is just a small part and the tool you use honestly does not matter that much in the long run. The key issue is how mature your process is
