Additionally, while tracking quantitative metrics, qualitative insights from user feedback can reveal the system's impact on their daily tasks and decision-making processes, providing a more holistic view of the BI system's effectiveness.

If you've hit the correct nerve then you're going to be busy. Top Organizational key players should be banging down your door with challenges to the produced numbers, reports and analytics. You should be having serious feedback, requests and enhancement requests. Primarily the key decision makers should be looking for more details to increase their trust in what you've produced. Again if you're done your job correctly then people are taking notice and will be very interested in knowing more about how you created something so insightful that it hasn't been delivered before. And of course you can collect usage metrics, adoption rates. But getting direct feedback is hitting the mark!

There are several metrics that can be used, but I'll mention here some that I've already used for ticketing systems. response time, ROI, closing time, and finally user satisfaction, which in my view is also important.

If you've done your job correctly you have included all of that discovery work in the BI system to get to your results. Missing data, incorrect inputs, misaligned definitions and islands of data. You've found disparate islands of reporting, archipelagos of excel spreadsheet nightmares and have had to decompose everything into valid information that can be trusted. You have put in *s all over your reports and dashboards. You've actually put in metadata and reference libraries (with associated dashboards) for all of these discrepancies and they show your decision makers just why they need to trust (and push for more). And of course you must constantly test and validate your results with existing data, numbers and reports.

Although ideally these decisions should lead to an improvement of the bottom line, it would be an overstatement that the report is the cause for improving the bottom line. The report should inform the users, the outcome of the decision depends on other factors. For example, a report can be useful to ditch unprofitable projects. Even if the bottom line has not been increased, the fact that the team does not waste time with unnecessary efforts is an improvement. To conclude, the ROI is the number of decisions taken.
