You need to know how to measure the process before you start trying to optimize it. How will you know if you are making things better or worse if you can't measure it? That is why I like the DMAIC process. Define what you are going to work on and make sure you have a Business Case to fix it. Then Measure the current state until you really understand it.

We want to be good employees and solve problems when we see them, but then we get too busy to follow through on the Big Needle Movers. Prioritize the big stuff and stay dedicated.
