One thing I've found helpful when creating a value proposition design is to first understand what the target customer is trying to achieve. I typically use the JTBD framework because it enables me to think of the users target goal outside my product and the current method (they're using to solve the problem). It's only after doing this that I begin to think of the current methods users rely on to achieve their goals. Here, the goal is to understand why they chose this method and its constraints. My value proposition then revolves around how my product addresses the constraints of the current way/method. P.S. To write a good value prop, you have to speak extensively to customers to understand them and their business.
