The article is excellent. However it is talking in general terms only and not industry specific. SMS is a vast science therefore if the article was to give few industry specific examples that would have made it more interesting and could help the readers to relate better to their individual SMS / SMP needs . The only SMS I learnt was aviation specific & the learning process is akin to walking on a treadmill which never stops. Good luck ??

This is a great article on the foundations of Safety Management approaches. As it’s a holistic overview, the article focuses at the 80k foot view. One aspect that I think is somewhat lacking in the overview, organizational intelligence. Where is the organization at, where is it going, and most importantly how do the employees see that transition. Understanding and soliciting employee buy-in has to happen at the development stage. Before you can plan, you have to have the vision and tools. Often times, this comes from the workforce in successful safety campaigns. Great article, and I look forward to reading upcoming ones.
