What impact do anchoring biases have on your first impressions?
When meeting someone for the first time, it's natural to make a quick assessment. However, critical thinking reveals that these first impressions may be skewed by anchoring bias. This cognitive bias occurs when you rely too heavily on the first piece of information encountered (the "anchor") when making decisions. For example, if the first thing you learn about a person is their prestigious job title, you might anchor to that detail and infer other positive attributes without sufficient evidence. This bias can shape your perception of someone's character and abilities, sometimes leading to an inaccurate or unfair assessment.
