+1 for exit strategy alignment. And if your have multiple investors then making sure they’re aligned with each other is vital. Otherwise your exit is very much at risk - and that’s a bad thing.

Do they fill a skills gap on the Board? * Track record of the Fund in providing support. This is supposed to be 'smart money'. What network do they bring? Always evaluate a potential VC complimentary to your founder team, you don't need echo chambers of yes-men or the same skillset, you need expertise that you lack. If you are a deepttech startup, look for sales, marketing, HR expertise, etc. Analyze in advance which skillset you lack for the next level and include this in your evaluation.
A fourth factor is to compare the terms and conditions of the VC firm's offer to your startup. You want a VC firm that offers fair and reasonable terms and conditions, such as valuation, equity, dilution, board seats, voting rights, exit clauses, or milestones. You also want a VC firm that is transparent and flexible in negotiating and finalizing the deal. A VC firm that offers unfavorable or rigid terms and conditions can limit your control, autonomy, or returns.
This is where the wheat is quickly separated from the chaff. You can quickly see how long-term and sustainable a VC wants to work with you based on the terms and conditions. Important: set clear guidelines in advance as to what is possible for you, what exceeds and what falls short of your expectations and always be prepared to get up from the table and let the deal fall through. Money is a commodity your product is unique, hopefully.

You know what - I don’t agree with this. Not because diversity isn’t important, but simply because the connection between everyone at your company and those investors is just too narrow for these cultural mores to translate. Pretty much only a couple of people will have close relationships with the VC team. I just don’t see how their diversity influences yours just by being a thing.
Respects, absolutely, but reflects? That's going to rather limit the sources of potential VC funding for ethnic minority businesses, isn't it?
