First, with all the standard insulation materials used in the past and “standardly specified as usual” you already feel you must have the latest energy software to improve any area possible. This idea is in concrete because you have never been introduced to a True and effectively tested and proven “INSULATION COATING” that industry just proved for themselves in their own plants. Using the monitoring equipment and same software you already have showed Georgia Pacific a 49% savings in energy loss winning an energy award. What does this mean to you— open your eyes and ears to a truly effective insulation coating that does not just promote employee protection but actual energy savings that as part of its effect is protection. In my experience, many want to do it all... reduce energy, lower demand, save money, and make equipment last. While very good goals, they need to be well defined across utilities. To get achieve those goals, a system of smart technology needs to be deployed to gather data. A networking infrastructure should be designed to get this information. Software, on-premise, or cloud based, should collect, gather, store, and organize the data first. Then the software should be able to analyze it and organize it in a sensible manner. That data then should be able to be displayed and reported. Finally, software should be able to provide the basis for machine learning, and perhaps even AI, to help predict.

For hot pipes, tanks and heat exchangers for example , monitoring heat going in, to be maintained and/or heat exiting the unit are simple but important probes to know how much each loss you are experiencing. When you apply a wrap and jacket as standard “specified” protocol gives you little energy savings which was monitored by a Georgia Pacific plant. They removed the “standard specified insulation” and simply used the basic monitor probes to find that using HPC “insulation coating” from Superior Products International (SPI COATINGS) allowed an immediately savings recording a 49% improvement in saving loss energy and thus winning the EPA ENERGY STAR Energy Saving Award. Did this take special equipment or software? Absolutely not.

As mentioned above about breaking away from the outdated insulation materials that contribute to CUI ( being discussed in every major new approach committee or new test method group to find how to avoid CUI while offering an insulation material (HPC) will not cause CUI), HPC insulation was offered to Georgia Pacific which did a two year energy study producing the energy saving data required by all majors trying to prevent CUI but allows everyone to get back to insulation which is where all these discussions started. The three main issues in the insulation effort is CUI, Energy Savings and Employee Protection. In this study, upon tearing into the coating film no CUI, 49% savings and the exterior offered full employee protection.

While looking for energy management system vendors, preference should be given to: 1. Prioritize solutions with minimum downtime. 2. Eliminate high initial costs due to wiring. 3. Preference should be given to vendors who are the OEMs of the devices and not the system integrators. 4. Vendor should be able to customize based on requirement. 5. Prefer cloud based dashboard providers. 6. Preference to vendors who are able to give Over the Air (OTA) updates.

Baseline energy intensity and energy mic , what level of disaggregated monitoring is useful, complexity of the manufacturing process which is being monitored.
