In my closed mind I can think of only device testing ,performance, network which comes with Google Chrome browser as a package to ensure the functioning of applications in devices screens simulators etc.Please correct me I there is anything wrong in my understanding.

2 Virtualization Testing Tools

Virtualization testing requires some specialized tools to create, manage, monitor, and test the virtualized environment and its components. Popular tools include VirtualBox, a free and open-source tool allowing users to test different operating systems, applications, and configurations; VMware, a commercial tool offering a range of products and services; Hyper-V, a built-in tool that comes with Windows 10 and Windows Server; and Docker, which allows you to create and run lightweight containers. All of these tools support Windows, Linux, MacOS, Solaris, and BSD. Through these tools you can test different operating systems, applications, configurations, integration with other applications, databases, and services without affecting your physical system.

Testing software in simulated conditions is crucial for ensuring the reliability of applications. Virtualization testing tools like Oracle VirtualBox allow developers to emulate various operating systems and network configurations, which is particularly useful when creating cross-platform applications. When my team created a web application that needed to be cross-platform on Windows and Debian/Linux OS, we used VirtualBox to create virtual machines for each target OS. This streamlined the testing process, enhanced flexibility, and contributed to the overall quality of the final product.

3 Virtualization Testing Challenges

Virtualization testing can present some challenges that need to be addressed to ensure quality and reliability. Resource allocation and management is one of these challenges; virtualization testing can consume a lot of resources, such as CPU, memory, disk, and network, that need to be allocated and managed properly to avoid performance degradation, resource contention, and resource wastage. Security and compliance is another challenge; virtualization testing can expose the software applications and systems to various security risks. Compatibility and interoperability is yet another challenge; virtualization testing can involve testing various combinations of hardware, operating system, application, and network components that need to be compatible and interoperable with each other. Therefore, careful planning and optimization of the resource allocation and management for the virtual machines and the host system must be done based on the testing requirements and the expected workload. Additionally, security measures such as encryption, authentication, authorization, firewall, antivirus, and audit must be implemented and tested for the virtual machines and the host system. Furthermore, the virtualized environment must be tested for compatibility and interoperability with the physical system and external systems across different platforms, devices, browsers, and versions.
