1 Automated testing tools

Automated testing tools are software applications that can scan your website or app for common accessibility issues, such as missing alt text, color contrast, keyboard navigation, and semantic markup. They can save you time and resources by identifying and prioritizing the most critical errors and suggesting possible fixes. However, automated testing tools are not enough to ensure full accessibility compliance and usability. They can only detect about 30% of the potential problems, and they cannot account for the human and contextual factors that affect user experience. Therefore, you should always supplement automated testing with manual and user testing methods.

To apply this approach, you should follow inclusive design principles, such as recognizing diversity and uniqueness, providing multiple ways of interaction, creating consistent and intuitive experiences, offering flexibility and control, and ensuring safety and privacy. Acknowledging that users have different needs, preferences, and experiences helps you design for them. Moreover, give users different options and modes of accessing and engaging with your product. 4 WCAG 2.2 guidelines

WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) is a set of standards and best practices for making web content accessible to people with disabilities. The latest version, WCAG 2.2, was released in June 2021 and contains nine new success criteria. These criteria cover topics such as pointer gestures (allowing users to perform functions with a single pointer, such as a finger or mouse), dragging movements (enabling users to operate draggable elements with one pointer), non-text contrast (ensuring user interface components and graphical objects have sufficient contrast with their adjacent colors), fixed reference points (allowing users to find content that is referenced by location or orientation), and focus appearance (making sure the focus indicator is visible and distinguishable from other elements).

Il est important d'être proactif en intégrant des pratiques d'accessibilité dès les premières phases du processus de développement. Plut?t que de traiter l'accessibilité comme une étape distincte ou un “correctif” après le déploiement, il faut intégrer les principes d'accessibilité dès la phase de conception. ?a permet d’identifier et résoudre plus rapidement les problèmes d'accessibilité potentiels, évitant ainsi des révisions majeures ultérieures.
